This is due to the International Society of Automation’s (ISA) reaffirmation of existing ISA valve-related standards, which include ANSI valve standards.

The valves are tested with a liquid that may consist of water, water with an added corrosion inhibitor, or other approved liquids with similar specific gravity. In order to pass all tests, a valve needs to:
- Display no visible leaks on the valve body during the hydro testing process
- Allow no leaks at the flanges, the stem, or any other part of the valve that must hold pressure.
- Valve function has no impairment during testing
ANSI Valve Standards: Tag Placement / Marking
The ability to identify a valve’s specification is crucial in the industrial field. Such information may include:
- Materials of construction
- Nominal diameter
- Pressure rating designation
- All internal components
A valve tag that is visible to help identify this information is very valuable during maintenance, upgrade, replacement, or when taking count of equipment inventory. For this reason, ANSI requires the placement of valve identification tags on the face of the b-port flange.
